I think they pick up something from watching our model. My kids aren't eager to edit "schoolish" assignments, but when it's something they want to write on their own (Every dang one of them is writing at least one book! They rarely get past 3-4 chapters, but still...), they take multiple edits for granted.

Hehe, Denise!

If you could only imagine how many times I tweak a sentence, move a word, even edit the photo I pick! It's just part of the process for me. You're right---there's something about watching a piece of writing unfold and improve before my eyes that makes me appreciate---and actually love---the editing process.

Ah...but with our kiddos? It does take a different approach altogether. Hopefully we can model for them so they observe us in self-editing action and realize that if our writing is better for it, theirs will be too. (Notice how I said "hopefully"?) :)

Thanks for stopping in!

Okay, I'm weird, but I love editing. It's ever so much more fun than facing that blank page to begin with. I even like editing the same thing over and over --- I suppose that's because I can see my article getting better with every pass.

But I have to admit that editing a child's paper is more difficult. I am much better at editing my own work than at teaching my children. Thanks for some great tips!
