Introducing Nancy Sanders

It may surprise you to learn that we never actually planned to enter this world of writing and publishing—though it was evidently in God’s mind that we should do so! Once we were on board with him, we could fairly hear him call, “Hang onto your hats, girls. Here we go!” And eight years later…well, here we are!

Just as we never intentionally set out to write a curriculum for secondary students, we decided we’d never produce any younger levels of the program either. After all, Debbie and I were empty nesters, far removed from the days of homeschooling our own young children. Even if we’d dared to entertain the thought, we just didn’t feel equipped, let alone called, to research and write lesson materials for little ones.

Enter Nancy I. Sanders. An accomplished author, she has written over 70 books, including picture books, activity books, devotionals, and teacher materials. But Debbie didn’t know all this when the two met at a church event in 2005. As they conversed about each others’ work and ministries, the seeds for a partnership were planted. We prayerfully commissioned Nancy to write a new early-elementary curriculum for WriteShop. And so for the past two-and-a-half years, Nancy has lovingly labored with us to that end. The result is a three-volume writing program—WriteShop Primary—coming out this spring.

On February 25, our blog will be the scheduled stop on Nancy’s Virtual Book Tour, which celebrates the release of her latest children’s book, award-winning D is for Drinking Gourd: An African-American Alphabet. We invite you to come back Monday, mug of coffee or tea in hand, for an in-depth interview with Nancy. You’ll learn more about D is for Drinking Gourd, WriteShop Primary, and the importance of using picture books to teach writing skills to your children. And you’ll just love meeting this amazing, gentle-spirited friend of ours. So mark your calendar!
