Online Tutoring |
|
Excited about WriteShop but still uncertain about editing and grading compositions? Consider pairing your student with an online tutor. Students will learn to write using the proven WriteShop program while receiving encouraging, objective feedback via e-mail from a qualified writing tutor.
After doing WriteShop's pre-writing activities and grammar-oriented Skill Builders with a parent, the student writes a "Sloppy Copy" (rough draft) and self-edits it using WriteShop's unique Student Writing Skills Checklist. He then writes a First Revision and sends his work to the tutor via e-mail.
When the tutor receives this work, she provides personalized suggestions that help the student improve his composition. Her comments will emphasize clarity, organization, vivid description, and style. Under the parent's direction (questions via e-mail are welcomed and promptly answered), the student then revises the project once more, producing a polished Final Draft, which he turns in for the tutor's evaluation and impartial grading according to WriteShop standards.
"We couldn’t be more pleased with the program and [our tutor]. She not only saves me time, but it is the best of both worlds: The WriteShop program combined with a tutor is far less expensive than sending our child to the “ideal” school, if such a thing were to exist."

Although the standard schedule for the program is one lesson every two weeks, younger students may take longer while older students might need to move at an accelerated pace to meet graduation goals. WriteShop tutors can pace assignments according to your student's needs. Within reason, you may adjust the time frame needed to complete each lesson if your payments are current. Please notify the tutor if your student needs to modify the schedule at any time. Microsoft Word 97 or higher; working e-mail address. |
Tutoring is not offered by the authors of WriteShop, but by writing teachers with tutoring experience (bios are available upon request). Please note that the tutors do not work for WriteShop, but function as independent contractors. WriteShop makes this tutoring option available as a service to our customers. We will be happy to connect you with a tutor, but it's up to you and the tutor to work out the arrangements. |
