In order to finish Book C by the end of second or third grade, you may need to complete more than one book per year. The books contain schedules to help you do this.
Using WriteShop Primary with Older Students
In most cases, WriteShop Primary is not recommended for fourth grade and up. Even though the skills themselves are important for all grades, the vocabulary, methods, and activities target young primary children and tend to be beneath an older child’s social or emotional level.
Most 9- or 10-year-olds will not want to make a Willy Worm Word Wall, do the Friendly Letter Boogie, or make a nursery rhyme shape book. On the other hand, a child who is emotionally young may not mind these types of activities. Book C would probably be the best choice for such a child, even if her writing skills are weak, since the activities are geared toward children at the older end of our spectrum.
We recommend Wordsmith Apprentice for most 9-11 year olds who need a strong beginning writing foundation.
Using WriteShop Primary with a Special Needs Child
Developmentally disabled children who function at a K-3rd grade level may enjoy WriteShop Primary’s activities.
