Using WriteShop Primary with Older Students
Though WriteShop Primary was written with younger children in mind, parents have reported success using Book B with eight- to ten-year-olds who have had little or no prior writing experience. Even for these older students, the lessons can provide a helpful foundation in sentence and paragraph development; organizing a story; and identifying problem, solution, character, and setting.
When working with your older child, you may find the need to eliminate or adapt some of the younger-sounding activities to make them more age-appropriate. However, you’ll soon discover that many of the teaching exercises are actually fitting for any beginning writer.
We also recommend Wordsmith Apprentice for 9- to 11-year-olds who need a strong beginning writing foundation.
Using WriteShop Primary with a Special Needs Child
Developmentally disabled children who function at a K-3rd grade level may enjoy WriteShop Primary’s activities.
